Carbon - steel seamless pipes are made by piercing ingots or solid billets into shell pipes, and then are produced through hot - rolling, cold - rolling or cold - drawing processes. They are classified into 10# seamless steel pipes, 20# seamless steel pipes, 45# seamless steel pipes, etc. Carbon - steel seamless pipes play an important role in China's steel pipe industry. According to incomplete statistics, there are currently more than about 240 seamless carbon - steel pipe production enterprises in China, with more than about 250 seamless carbon - steel pipe production lines, and the annual production capacity is about more than 4.5 million tons. In terms of diameter, those with a diameter of less than φ76 account for 35%, and those with a diameter of less than φ159 - 650 account for 25%. In terms of varieties, general - purpose pipes are 1.9 million tons, accounting for 54%; oil pipes are 760,000 tons, accounting for 5.7%; hydraulic support and precision pipes are 150,000 tons, accounting for 4.3%; stainless pipes, bearing pipes and automotive pipes total 50,000 tons, accounting for 1.4%. The raw material of carbon - steel seamless pipes is round billets. The round billets need to be cut by a cutting machine into billets with a length of about 1 meter and then sent to the furnace for heating via a conveyor belt. The billets are sent into the furnace for heating at a temperature of about 1200 degrees Celsius. The fuel is hydrogen or acetylene. Temperature control inside the furnace is a crucial issue. After coming out of the furnace, the round billets need to be pierced by a piercing machine. The more common piercing machine is the conical roll piercing machine. This kind of piercing machine has high production efficiency, good product quality, a large amount of piercing and expanding diameter, and can be used for piercing multiple steel grades. After piercing, the round billets are successively skew - rolled by three - roll mills, continuously rolled or extruded. After extrusion, the pipes need to be removed from the mandrel and sized. The sizing machine drills holes in the steel billets at high speed through conical drill bits to form steel pipes. The inner diameter of the steel pipe is determined by the outer diameter length of the sizing machine drill bit. After being sized, the steel pipe enters the cooling tower and is cooled by spraying water. After being cooled, the steel pipe needs to be straightened. After being straightened, the steel pipe is sent to a metal flaw detector (or hydraulic pressure test) for internal flaw detection via a conveyor belt. If there are problems such as cracks and bubbles inside the steel pipe, they will be detected. After quality inspection, the steel pipe still needs to go through strict manual selection. After quality inspection, the steel pipe is sprayed with numbers, specifications, production batch numbers, etc. with paint and then hoisted into the warehouse by a crane.
